What is a Producer?
A record producer is a recording project’s creative and technical leader. They are responsible for helping the artist to realize their creative vision for a song or album. This can involve arranging music, directing the recording process, hiring musicians, working with the sound engineer, and coaching the artist or band. The role of a record producer can be likened to that of a film director.
Who needs a producer?
A producer can help artists who are looking to write, produce, and distribute a single song, EP, or an album while using their expertise and experience to bring the artist’s vision to reality. An artist with the same knowledge and experience could do this for themselves, but the challenge for any artist will still be their bias for their own music and the lack of third-party input on creative and technical decisions that can make or break a successful recording.
What will a producer do for me?
A producer can help in the entire production process. This could include feedback or even collaboration in the songwriting; preparing the band or artist for recording; Finding and selecting musicians for the recording; arranging music; making sure the artist or band deliver their best performance in the recording stage; making sure the mix and master delivers the artist’s visions for the song.. among other things.
Will the producer create and record the backing music?
For a singer/songwriter who does not have a backing band, it may be part of the project scope that the producer will create the produce the music for you. How this is approached will depend on the project budget and musical needs for your project. The producer will either hire and record the musicians on your project or otherwise create the music themselves. The choice and use of a recording studio for tracking live musicians is another consideration.
Will a producer mix and master my song?
Depending on your project requirements and budget, your producer may take on other roles, such as sound engineer, mix engineer, and mastering engineer. Though not necessarily the domain of a ‘producer’ it is common for smaller budget projects to include these additional services.
How much will it cost?
This will be entirely dependent on the scope of the project. Typically, your project will consist of a producers fee, plus all other costs, such as the recording, mixing, and mastering. The project budget will be something that you will need to discuss and agree with the producer, and it will be their job to keep the project from going over the agreed budget, while at the same time, delivering your project goals in the form of a finished record.
About Me
Hi. I’m Lee, a British born songwriter, musician, and producer currently based between Sweden and Dubai. As the son of a talented classical guitar teacher and nephew of a wild rock drummer, my passion and journey in music began early.
My teenage years were spent writing songs, and performing in local bands. By the age of 18 I was fortunate enough to produce my first full album in a professional recording studio in the UK.
Over the past 30+ years, I have continued to develop my musical knowledge, skills, and experience. I have collaborated with many talented artists to write and produce music for album releases as well as for artists seeking film, television, and advertising placements. I’ve also continued my professional studies with the online branch of the Berklee College of Music, where I have attained certifications in the fields of music and vocal production, songwriting, arranging, and guitar performance.
Today, I enjoy working with artists from all genres and musical backgrounds and look forward to having the chance to work with you on your next project!

I love and thrive producing in a number of music styles and genres, including rock, blues, pop, funk, jazz, soul and Latin music. I’m always open to new musical styles and love to work with new artists to help them develop their own unique sound.

Recording Gear
For clients who prefer it, or for lower project budgets, I own and run a cosy project studio in Sweden. The studio is acoustically treated and uses professional grade recording equipment, including Neve and SSL pre-amps, Neumann mics, ADAM Audio and Avantone monitoring, Marshall, Orange, and Ampeg guitar and bass amps, as well as a full suite of professional plugins (UAD, Waves, Eventide, etc.) and outboard processing.
